Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner circuit board repair

Here is a link to the disassembly video I watched:

Note:
****I did not follow the repair detailed in the video or cut any wires, but it is a good resource for disassembly and assembly as well as the mechanical operation of this unit.****

I was able to troubleshoot and repair this SCJ-HC-008.
You'll need a multimeter, a 2.5mm torx or hex driver to unscrew the plastic housing, scissors or a razor, solder, flux, soldering iron and a small piece of wire. Optionally, a hot glue gun and Corrosion X to reseal the circuit board.

Red and black wires are positive and negative from battery compartment.
Blue and white wires connect to the motor, and connecting the white wire to negative from the battery compartment should turn on the motor. I used alligator clips to test my motor still worked.

Without batteries installed I checked my switches/buttons for continuity, they were working on my unit.

1 = Negative, 2 = Positive, 2 is connected to 4 through a trace on the left side of the board. With batteries installed I started by checking voltage at the board from 1 and 2, you should see ~5v. I followed the circuit checking for voltage between 1 and 4. The board has a conformal coating so make sure you're touching metal when you check voltage.

The trace that goes around the edge of the board had corroded so I soldered a jumper then resealed the board in the plastic housing with hot glue, after coating the board in Corrosion X.

  1. Thank you very much! The price of these have skyrocketed, and there are no replacements on the market (at least yet). I did the fix as you described here (was contemplating doing an external switch), but this keeps everything as is, and it appears to work. Again - BOOM!

    1. That's really great to hear my fix worked for you. It's also interesting that yours failed in the same spot as mine, that's pretty cool info to know.

  2. Any idea where to get the motor that's in there?
